-- our gardens about services contact landscape design and construction by robert donaldson our gardens about services contact the florist's garden on this wide plot, i was given a blank canvas. so, using the circular motif design, creating ‘rooms’, we built natural stone patio circles edged with black granite, vertical timbers, stone rockery, shingle pathways, a raised walkway, lawn area and mulched bedding finished with carefully chosen planting to appeal to my client’s discerning eye. the result was a well balanced and beautifully structured garden which will only improve with time. with all their needs and hopes fulfilled, our customers were delighted with their stylish new garden. the room outdoors with instructions to create a stylish garden that would sit well with their cosmopolitan tastes, i designed this sleek continental style garden for my client. the classic union of opposites: contrasting circles with rectangles, dark paviors with light stone slabs, creates an exciting aesthetic which would feel at home whetyher in the mediterranian, middle east or gerrards cross. the view from the side passage becomes an optical feast using black pergola frames which draw the eye out into the garden beyond. the posts enforce vertical interest whilst also serving successfully disrupt and distract attention from the lines of the neighbouring bungalow. planting accentuates the continental theme and the graphic motif within the stonework boldly creates a perception of the 'room outdoors'. the country house my client, an architect, supplied his own drawings for this addition to his traditional edwardian style gardens. it was my responsibility to achieve harmony with the existing style of house and garden. attention to detail was of paramount importance and careful consideration to the sourcing of materials was key. electrics and drainage were also a major element of this project. a small garden with plans supplied by a hampton court winner, this small, low maintenance garden ticked all the boxes, stylish, practical and versatile, it has transformed a tight space into a haven for entertainment and relaxation. the main area of patio was laid in natural stone. circular motifs lined with black granite sets infilled with 15mm cotswold chippings with peripheral soft low maintenance planting, all go to make this little gem a real show winner. an arts & crafts garden this new development and its small garden within the grounds of a country house required a sympathetic treatment. with an open brief, the customer opted for this design of natural stone and red brick detailing, raised square planters and shingle with low maintenance dry planting. with an arts & crafts influence, the design successfully blends the new building with the established austerity of the country house and its gardens. requiring the slightest of maintenance and creating a wonderful space to relax and entertain, our customer was very happy with his new garden.  the courtyard garden there really is nothing like an old garden wall as backdrop to a garden and this small courtyard garden is no exception. we were very fortunate to be commissioned to build this garden after the removal of the old garden features, we decided that we should retain an element of period detail to harmonise with the historic nature of the setting, this is manifested by the black pavior circles. these in turn are linked together by the sharp angular stone paving, creating a wonderful contrast with the more rustic paviors and old bricks. an abundance of shade loving ferns and hardy grasses along with other low maintenance plants adorn the bedding areas, a flourish of natural sandstone rockery creates contrast and an effective focal point at the rear of the garden. the sheltered and intimate nature of the garden enclosed by walls with some mature planting allows for a warm and cozy environment to entertain. we like to think that gave this wonderful old space the new life it richly deserved. our client fell totally head over heels in love with her new garden, so i have take that as a thorough success! a patio and pond aside from the complete removal of an old garage and its re-instatement with a new timber structure, plus the renewal of an old pond, the brief was otherwise completely open. i used natural stone circles finished with black granite sets for the main patio area, blending into an informal shingle, pebble and random stone surround to the pond. black timber pergolas were used to create vertical interest. fulfilling all of their needs and aspirations and creating a wonderful area for entertainment, my customer was extremely happy with their new garden. the wimbledon garden this little gem of a garden in the suburbs of wimbledon was designed to be a oasis of calm, a space to wind down from the stresses and strains of a busy life. using a contemporary angular design, accentuated with black paviors, together with raised beds and low maintenance planting, this garden pretty much takes care of itself. vertical interest is achieved using mature planting and black timber pergolas framed new oak lath fencing to finish. our customer can now enjoy a wonderful little entertainment and relaxation space and along with the added advantage of a culinary bed they will never have to worry about buying herbs from the supermarket again! a garden reborn this garden has quite a story! our customer awoke one morning to discover that her garden was falling into a hole. you don't get a much better excuse for a new garden than that! so after fully reinforcing the faulty soakaway, this perfectly proportioned garden now adorns the space. separated into two rooms and with sympathetic planting, the garden has all the appeal of a mediterranian courtyard with space to house a wealth of terracotta pots and plants. a bit of sunshine and a bottle of rioja is all that is needed to complete the scene - salud!
